The FABWAX 3D printer kit tackles the problem of iterative prototyping waste in 3D printing. Designed for makers and designers, it allows users to print non-permanent prototypes. The material is continuously reusable, closing the loop on material waste in the prototyping process caused by object obsolescence.
Featuring a peristaltic pump extruder system and a liquid wax tank, FABWAX enables the printing of objects in beeswax, a natural and dissolvable material. The liquid supply tank allows for obsolete and failed prints to be immediately remelted into fresh material with no additional processing required. The peristaltic pump mechanism provides a novel yet accurate solution to liquid material 3D printing.
The outcome of the project was a successful working prototype producing beeswax objects, offering an exciting potential for future research and optimisation.
