Welcome to the The Faculty of Environment and Technology 2022 Virtual Degree show.
In Studio RE we were challenged to respond to the current Climate Emergency whilst also stitching our city back together. Proposals considered both the operational and embodied carbon of buildings which is essential to design truly sustainable buildings. My proposal is situated along the Floating Harbour to the East of SS Great Britain next to Brunel Square. The existing building is the Maritime Heritage Centre built in 1985; a steel frame shed with a brick envelope on the North-West corner of a car park. The proposed project programme is a Mental Health Support Centre - Connecting Bristol’s Minds. The scheme aims to alleviate “social stress” caused by the lack of social bonding and cohesion in neighbourhoods. Connecting Bristol’s Minds will aim to create meaningful social interactions across communities and alleviate mental health problems. The proposal aims to reconnect communities that are disjointed and reduce economic disparities across the city.
