The silt was left at the bottom of the harbour creating depth water leaving it difficult for ships to pass. The sluices allow the dirty old water to be washed out through the sluices, cleansing and renewing the harbour. These sluices have restored and saved Bristol harbours river as well as the gates operating system to control the silt and water levels. The Sluices is almost a conceptual piece that reinstates and restores a scaring. The scaring of the cut has created different communities, this is through access, routes and how through these social events it started getting distressed spaciously. The text communicates the historic social tension, the pain and suffering within the city. After it is released through the sluice pipes it changes into a butterfly, expressing that sign of relief - cleansing of the city. This is very interesting as I would like to design something relating to the story of this scaring to cleansing. Why can't this “Building” be the same process as the silt and the gates/sluices? The silt being the pain, bad energy, stress, suffering, and strain. and the Sluices/gates being the relief or peace. Or the route of the silt taken out to cleanse the harbour can be the same route people experience through my building after reaching the 'healing'. In other words, the program is a building that heals you mentally and physically. The building offers therapy for patients and the public with spaces that enables privacy and the experience of the gradual healing and cleansing, social, joyful spaces “the floating therapy” and spaces like the “therapy garden”. The building fits all users and brings something exciting and new to every individual.
