Reducing the transmission of blood-borne diseases amongst the intravenous drug using community:
My project named Nål aims to reduce the transmission of blood-borne diseases amongst the intravenous drug using community, prevent drug equipment from being reused and limiting exposed sharps on the street. Nål acts as packaging for the most common syringe used amongst intravenous drug users, that being the 1ml insulin syringe. This was a way to ensure a product that isn't intrusive and has the users’ best interest at its core. It works by a one-in/one-out system: a user inserts a dirty syringe and a clean syringe is ejected out the bottom, whilst simultaneously locking onto the old syringe and bending its tip to prevent re-use. Nål stores the old syringe within itself preventing exposed sharps from being on the street, keeping our streets hypodermic free.
