Alternative Performing Arts Venue: The Loco Klub at Brunel’s Old Station, Temple Meads describes itself as an ‘exciting underground arts and performance venue’. In keeping with the dynamic, nomadic and moderately unconventional style of the client: Invisible Circus, the design brief was formed around the concept of creating an adaptable performing arts destination that will breathe new life into the site and surrounding area. The design proposal alongside future regeneration plans will encourage new audiences to visit this upcoming part of Bristol. The project will be inspirational, transformative and able to evolve.
The scheme design will be versatile and support a variety of functions that reach out to a diverse demographic. The alterations will have a low impact on the existing building and surrounding site and be of temporary nature. Flexible use of space will mean the scheme possess the ability to be reconfigured to suit various user needs. Through its design, Loco Klub will promote environmental sustainability and inspire creativity whilst providing dynamic and sociable leisure spaces for public enjoyment. Alternative Performing Arts Venue will offer an unconventional theatre experience that challenges perceived formalities of theatre and blurs the boundaries between theatre and everyday public life.
