The new leisure centre, located at the southwest corner of Castle Park where the unused Norwich Union building used to sit, was built to improve the currently limited sporting facilities available in Bristol City Centre, and promote a healthy lifestyle for the city’s occupants. The building aims to utilize both modern materials and technologies, to create a sustainable yet aesthetically pleasing project. Incorporating glulam beams, reclaimed steel, alongside a rainwater harvesting system and solar panels has helped to achieve the sustainability criteria of the brief and lower carbon footprint.

The selection of large amounts of glazing, not only utilizes large amounts of the natural sunlight but allows users of the centre to view the historic landmarks of the site, namely St Mary Le Port Church, a vocal part of this project.
