The Bristol Key is a reinvented hotel which reflects the transition from built to natural environment while proposing a possible future of the hotel industry seen in the regenerative design, opportunities for human-nature interaction and transparency of otherwise hidden processes. By considering the post-pandemic context, the project aims at making a change by bringing people closer to nature with a design that encourages outdoor activities and exploration of the city while raising awareness about sustainable production and consumption to set an example for the future of hotels. The building has a mixed-use aspect as it combines a semi-private hotel section with a public watersport centre to create a destination both for tourists and the local community while promoting the exploration of Bristol by water. The project provides sustainable production and consumption alternatives seen in the rainfall harvesting strategy producing water for the operational purposes of the building and self-serviced laundry.
