My project aims to reinvigorate the Cumberland Basin, an area which suffered decades of decline after closure of the commercial river and associated activity; by creating a dynamic business and tourism focused building: an exhibition centre with hotel facilities. The exhibition would celebrate Bristol’s prominent natural resource: the water of River Avon and honour the site's richness through a design that projects a remembrance of Bristol’s historic past function, and a vision of its future.

My project re-connects Cumberland to the city, rebuilding the site as a celebrated and welcoming platform for Bristolians and visitors. Through using principles of deconstructionism and movement theories, the building embodies the function within the physical aesthetic: the roof is modelled around a ship’s sail with a layout of curving concrete wall designing a path from the mapping of visitors movement on site. The Building embraces the site’s resources, by embellishing and bringing the spotlight to this historic site.
