Benjamin Rowe

My chosen site is Paintworks in Bristol and the theme which influenced my design was localism. My selected industry is wearables, and I’ve designed a building which aims to tackle an issue within the industry, especially denim, by reducing the total amount of clothing which goes to landfill. My main aim is to recycle and upcycle denim in a sustainable way, therefore I have designed a building with public and private elements. The private aspect of my building includes a factory where denim will be recycled into insulation, also a workshop where items of clothing can be repaired and repurposed. And the public side of the design includes a café, shop and museum space. The design uses locally sourced materials which relate to the materials of the surrounding context.
