Lawrence Hill is one of the most deprived areas in Bristol, lacking in social opportunities and dominated by a roundabout which divides its population into secluded communities. My scheme aims to tackle these issues, as well as the wider Bristolian issue of homelessness, through creating a modern-day caravanserai, centred around food.

A ground level food market encourages interactions between vendors and customers, and is permeable from the street, offering a dedicated space for social interactions to occur. The scheme will also become a monument for the community to identify with, with the recurring use of the arch motif making it an unmistakable icon of the area. Finally, the tactile materiality, structural forms, and rooftop gardens will draw pedestrian movement from across the site to investigate, thus beginning to remedy the issues caused by the current built environment, and in time creating an important community asset.
