This is a proposal for a new gallery and household recycling centre in Lawrence Hill. The buildings primary aim is to provide a service to the community, educating local people on sustainable waste management and encouraging Re-use and Recycling. The gallery will reuse the current architecture of the site. By adaptively re-using elements of existing structure and demolished materials ensures that the proposal contributes to sustainability and regeneration throughout its design, construction, and use. The linear organisation of the building is informed by the site constraints and the existing infrastructure of the A4320 bridge road, St Phillips HRC and the Refuse Transfer Station building. The long brick facades create active frontages and allows for social interaction and outdoor activity. A mix of solid brick forms connected by transparent glazed walls and a Renzo Piano inspired layered roof results in the proposal reflecting a marriage of refurbished industrial buildings and new modern extensions.
