“Sounds of Bristol” is situated in Old Market, Central Bristol. It is an indoor venue for music and cultural events, particularly concerts and smaller-scale music festivals. The site is near a conservation area and the masterplan includes some Grade II listed buildings as well as residential properties.

The brief was developed from our ‘Cyclic City’ masterplan, which focuses on the annual cycle of seasonal events. Music is a key aspect of many of these events, and this design accommodates the ways in which music is used to celebrate time and the natural rhythms of the seasons.

The project explores ways of creating a pleasant environment by utilising natural environmental elements such as natural light, ventilation, and renewable energy. This attempt to integrate engineering elements within the design allows for adaptable and sustainable buildings, which will contribute towards achieving Bristol’s sustainability goals in the coming years.
